Maintenance tips
Our company provides guidelines for clients on how to maintain their marble, granite, and limestone products. We have compiled a list of maintenance tips that can help in the upkeep of these natural stone surfaces.
Stain Removal Tips:
Different types of stains require specific cleaning methods. Organic stains like tea, coffee, and soft drink spills can be cleaned with a poultice soaked in a 20 percent peroxide solution with a few drops of ammonia. For oil stains, like those caused by butter or lotion, an absorbent powder such as whiting or cornstarch can be spread over the surface. After 24 hours, the powder can be brushed away,
and the stain can be removed with a hot, sudsy solution and a stiff brush or by wiping with an ammonia-dampened cloth. Rust stains can be removed with a commercial rust stain remover, following the directions precisely,
and rinsing immediately to avoid etching the surface. Acid stains, such as those caused by fruit juice or carbonated beverages, should be wiped immediately with a wet cloth. If the surface is etched, polishing may be necessary, but abrasive cleaners should be avoided.
DO NOT:
Abrasive cleaners should be avoided as they can leave scratches on the surface. Additionally, while cultured Egyptian marble is stronger than natural stone marble, it will eventually lose its shine. Instead,
use a neutral pH purpose cleaner to clean cultured marble, and use putty powder (tin oxide) to polish dulled or etched surfaces, rubbing it on with a damp cloth and using an electric polisher for buffing.
Tips:
To protect your Egyptian marble surfaces, it is a good idea to use a polishing agent from time to time. Be sure to clean marble surfaces before applying the polish, and use tin oxide-based polishers. Also, it is recommended to reseal your marble floor annually at least to maintain its shine and protect it from damage.
To apply a stone sealer, purchase it from a home improvement store and use a sponge, sponge mop, or rag to cover the entire marble surface, including corners and the backsplash. These tips can help in maintaining the appearance and durability of your natural stone surfaces.
